May, 2005 - The Hagerstown Aviation Museum is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit
corporation in the state of Maryland
July, 2005 - The museum opens its public exhibit which tells the story of Hagerstown’s
seventy-year history of aircraft design and manufacture
Maryland Public Television airs the documentary, “Hagerstown,
Remembering Our Aviation Heritage”
The museum participates in the Hagerstown Fly-In and Fairchild Aircraft
Family Reunion
Aug., 2005 - Four generations of the Stonebraker family gather at the museum to honor
their ancestor, Hagerstown native aviation pioneer Wm. Paul Stonebraker
Oct., 2005 – The museum builds and enters a float depicting Hagerstown’s aviation
history in the Alsatia Halloween Mummers Parade
Nov., 2005 – A unique Hagerstown built 1939 Fairchild F-24/UC-61 aircraft is
discovered in Georgia and plans are made for its recovery
Dec., 2005 – The rescue of the Kreider-Reisner Aircraft Company’s original
“Little Green Shed” factory building begins
Jan., 2006 – A former Fairchild employee donates funds for the purchase of the Fairchild
F-24/UC-61C and it is returned to Hagerstown for restoration
Mar., 2006 – The Kreider-Reisner “Little Green Shed” is dismantled, moved and safely
stored in Fairchild’s Plant 1 building
Apr., 2006 - The first issue of the museum’s magazine, The New Pegasus, is published
and widely distributed
May, 2006 – The museum is given a Gulfstream II on permanent loan and future
donation
June, 2006 – The museum website, www.HagerstownAviationMuseum, is initiated
A comprehensive Strategic Plan and an Organizational Guide are completed
for the museum
July, 2006 – The last flyable Fairchild C-82 Packet/Flying Boxcar is available for
purchase from Hawkins and Powers in Wyoming and fundraising begins
All the aircraft at Hawkins and Powers will now be auctioned off in
August, and the museum begins an intense five week fundraising effort
Aug.23, 2006 By the auction date, 100 donors contribute $140,000, all of which is needed
for the museum’s successful bid to aquire the C-82 for Hagerstown
A flight simulator and additional media are acquired by a grant from the
Wash. Co. Gaming Comm. and placed in the museum’s exhibit area
Sept., 2006 – B&G Industries in Wyoming spend six busy weeks repairing and
refurbishing the C-82 for its flight to Hagerstown in October
Oct., 2006 – The museum participates in the Hagerstown Fly-In and Fairchild Aircraft
Family Reunion The C-82 completes its journey home when it lands at the Hagerstown
Regional Airport on Oct.15
The museum office is established at 14235 Oak Springs Rd., Hagerstown, in
space donated by Hagerstown Aircraft Services President Tracey Potter
Nov., 2006 – A C-82 open house held on Veterans’ Day is attended by several hundred
people
The Fall, 2006, issue of the museum’s magazine, The New Pegasus, is
printed and distributed
Dec., 2006 – Bob Stanford, Pres. of Zenith Aviation, Fredericksburg, Va., purchases,
then donates, a Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar to the museum
Stan Crippen, a resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, donates his restored PT-19
Fairchild primary trainer to the museum
Jan., 2007 – A child-friendly, hands-on Cessna 150 airplane is refurbished by
Hagerstown Aircraft Services and placed in the museum’s exhibit area
A number of restored aircraft engines donated by Bob Stanford and historic
electronic equipment are added to the exhibits
Feb., 2007 – Genevieve Booth of Whitehall, Montana, donates her late husband’s
North American T-6 Texan advanced trainer to the museum
Mar., 2007 – Museum hosts thank-you reception for donors to the C-82 fundraising effort
June, 2007 _ Museum participates in an open house at the Rider Jet Center
Aug., 2007 – Museum hosts a bus tour to National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy
Center
Ward Wilkins donates his restored PT-19 trainer to the museum and flies it
from his home in Indiana to Hagerstown
Oct., 2007 – The museum participates in the Hagerstown Fly-In and Fairchild Aircraft
Family Reunion
The museum hosts a 1940’s Hangar Dance in conjunction with the annual
Fly-In
Nov., 2007 – The “Flying Horse Charity Auction” is held with proceeds to benefit the
museum
